We lived in Singapore 2002-2006, then went back to Perth for a few years and came back to Singapore to live in 2010.  When we arrived back here, we thought it was so much cheaper than when we had left, but maybe it was that Perth had become so much more expensive.

Some parts of Perth have now become very expensive, especially the beer.  An article I have just seen supports this Grin

Ale not so hearty at $17 for a pint

A $17 oversize pint of boutique Belgian beer Hoegaarden at Hillarys pub The Breakwater has taken the title of Perth's most expensive.

Just five years after the most expensive pints in Perth cracked the $10 mark, a survey of 31 Perth pubs by The Weekend West revealed Perth full-strength beer drinkers are now paying an average of $10 a pint.

The survey, which assessed the price of 373 pints across Perth pubs, found The Breakwater's 640ml pint of Hoegaarden had taken over from Leederville pub The Garden, which served the same beer for $18 two years ago.

The Garden has since taken the beer off its menu.

City pub Belgium Beer Cafe came second, charging $16.70 for a pint (570ml) of boutique Belgium beer Leffe - up from $16.50 two years ago.

It was followed by a pint of Peroni, $14, at the Raffles Hotel, Applecross; an Asahi at the Wembley Hotel was $13.80 while a pint of Matso's Mango Beer at The Brook, Ellenbrook, was $13.

Other expensive tipples included a $9.90 middy (285ml) of Asahi at the Oxford Hotel and a $10 schooner (425ml) of French beer Kronenbourg at new inner-city rooftop bar The Aviary.

Perth's most expensive mid-strength was $9.30 for a pint of Super Dry 3.5 at South Perth pub the Windsor.

The survey found the average pint price for a full-strength beer in Perth was $9.97.

Australia's minimum hourly wage is 20 AUD, around 27 SGD. So bosses have to pay their employees 27 SGD/hr minimum.

Where do you think bosses get the money from?

Yes, by raising the prices of their goods and services of course.

But if you work in Australia, it is still more affordable than Sinkapore. Standard of life, quality of service and things are better as well.

Where did you obtain that minimum hourly wage figure from?

Also, have you recently lived in Perth?

Oh the minimum wage is 15 AUD not 20, my bad.

I have not lived in Perth, and have no desire to live in Perth.

Hope that helps.

95% of my posts are about Singapore, a country I am very familiar with. And I have been to Australia many times, but not to Perth. Why would anyone want to live in Perth, which is a continent away from any other city in the world? Except for mining and civil service, there does not seem to be many career or business opportunities as well.

Hope that helps, D Head. Cheesy

A waiter in Perth can still afford a second hand car and pay rent and still realize an ambition of owning a freehold property.

A coffeeshop worker or a waiter in Singapore can keep dreaming about it.

Why did you lie about the minimum wage in the first place?  Are you a habitual liar or are you just stupid?

But he's got a point. Who TF would want to live in Perth or anywhere in the wasteland of ex-cons down under?  Huh
If you can choose between a World Class City like Singapore or a third rate desert wasteland with a bunch of drunken fat women and a few kangaroos then it is not too hard to make a decision. Hence we are all here and not in bloody Perth!

Singapore may be a world class 'city', the people however are anything but. At least australians know how to hold a conversation.

I must admit, that did make me laugh too. World class provincial town maybe...but it has a long way to go if it wants to play with the big boys.
