Hi,
We are considering moving to a condo near Bartley MRT (Casa Rosa) but wanted to know other peoples thoughts or experiences with living in the Bartley/Serangoon area.
Please no over the top comments, helpful feedback only please.
Thank you!

We live in Serangoon Gardens which is a bit further away but I would say that the area in general has become a lot more convenient over the past few years with the NE line and now the Circle Line up & running.
NEX shopping centre (hell to park) gives you a lot of what you can find in Orchard in terms of shops, cinema, library and a load of places to eat. There are also the smaller shopping centres around which have decent sized NTUC supermarkets - 2 in Hougang. Heartland Mall at Kovan MRT has a Cold Storage.
You don't say if you have children or not; if you do, a concern might be whether there are other foreigners in the condo or not as the local kids will have holidays at different times as well as different school timings so it migh tbe hard for them to make friends if they want to.

I lived in the Kovan area for two years, and in general I liked it. Living there I felt like I was really "in Singapore" rather than in an expat enclave. There are a number of expats in the area because of the nearness to French school and an Australian school (which has driven up rental rates), but places like Heartland Mall and NEX are very much Singaporean hangouts.
My only reason for moving out of the area was that it was too far from work (and my condo was a 12~15 minute walk the Kovan MRT station and the nearest bus stop). As long as the location is convenient to the places you have to travel to, and you're comfortable being in an area that's maybe 1% Ang Mo, then you'd probably like it there.

I"m living in the Bartley area, just off Summerville road if you know where that is. This area has progressed with the building if the NE and Circle line. Getting to town only takes me 15min via train, cabs are too expensive now with the hike in charges!! The Nex mall is a great place to shop as they have most of the items a household may need...They is also a mini Central, where you have a lot of shops selling everything...Good location mate!
