The average person seroconverts (becomes HIV positive) and has detectable antibodies 25 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone who tests negative at 90 days is 97% likely to be negative according to the Center for Disease Control in the United States. By and large, if you test negative at twelve (or even ten) weeks after the "incident" you are negative.
