"Local" restaurant recommendation?

Or, I've just remembered, the East Coast Lagoon food centre has just re-opened. It has been refurbished and is quite nice now with nice tables and benches instead of the usual plastic chairs.  I can't recommend anywhere there yet as I haven't eaten there, but may do so in the next week.

i'm sorry but these aren't very good recommendations. please check out the makansutra web site or book for better ideas.

boon tong kee is very specific (chicken rice) and good but overhyped.  prima has no local atmostphere at all.

casa bom vento at joo chiat (eurasian cuisine) or dulukula (sp? dulukulu??) at bukit timah plaza for eurasian/peranakan

bak chor mee (check the makansutra web site recommendation

fishhead curry at banana leaf or apollo / sammy's curry at dempsey / komalas vegetarian south indian food

fishhead bee hoon at ah moy street (can't remember the name at the moment)

frog's legs at geylang

satay/ sting ray for the token tourist experience (optional) at newton.

@dardar: The guy doesn't want to take his friend to a "real" hawker centre... otherwise naturally there are so many places to go to!
@OP: When you decide on the place, can you tell us what the experience was like, please? Hope you have a good time...

but if that's the case i don't think i recommended many (any?) hawker centers.

casa bom vento or dulukula (sp? dulukulu??) are small sized "restaurants" (or cafes) and provide excellent peranakan/eurasian food.

Dardar dear, frog's legs at Geylang and seafood at Newton... hawker centres lah! Ne'mind, do'wan argue.

The smoky outdoor area near Lau Pa Sat?  Or perhaps the Fisherman's Village at Pasir Ris - watch the sun go down over the beach while eating seafood with the sand between you toes - right here in Singapore!!

For ladies - you can't beat Little India on a Sunday night for a memorable experience.  Tell her "its really hot and you should wear some skimpy stuff" and you can be sure she will never forget it!!!

the frogs legs thing at geylang is not a hawker center, sweetie. i'll give you newton hawker center, but that is an established tourist spot anywa.
