Can anyone recommend a nice romantic restaurant which has a good wine menu and serves decent sized meals (ie, not a huge plate with a meal the size of a dollar coin on it!).
I want to take my husband out for his birthday so it would be to a restaurant where you wouldn't normally go every day - it's a special occasion!
Thanks!

You should difinitely try Senzo in Club Street. The whole crew, incl. chef, used to work in the italian restaurant in Goodwood Park. The food is sensational, good wineselection, the service top class and the prices reasonable: all maincourses are in the range of $30.-. Go and have a drink in the bar first.
Alternatively, go to l'Angelus, a french bistro, also in Club Street, very romantic, top food, nice wines and attentive service (try the creme brulee for desert).

Jardin des Amis (in the Botanic Gardens) is fabulous - but doesn't come cheap!

Blu on the 34th(?) floor of the Shangri La. Be sure to book and remember to ask for a window table. The view is great.

If your husband is a realy wine lover then the wine list at Au Jardin is particularly good if you want to spend serious money on your wine. At about the $300 point you are only paying retail, and sometimes sub-retail prices. But then not everyone can see the "value" in a $300 bottle of wine! The setting is lovely and the service was great too.

We went to Blu on Saturday night and I would say that the food was the best of its type (Modern European / Asian style) I have had in Singapore, Au Jardin and Senso included. Prices are highish by Singapore standards (around $50 per main). The view is great. There was also a live singer with a pianist and a double bassist which gave the place a nice mood. And the bar is cool.

Quite and romantic with a first growth, go to Au Jardin. Something a bit more lively (but still romantic) go to Blu.

You'll need to book for any of them.

Anna,

Here's some more food for thought!

Pasta Brava, Italian, located in a shophouse on 10 Craig Road. Tanjong Pagar. Look for owner Rolando who provides service at it's best. Nice surroundings, excellent food, good portions and good value for money. It's a popular Expat eating place, so reservations in advance. Tel: 227 7550.

Michelangelo's, Blk 43 Jalan Merah Saga, Holland Village, fantastic setting and romantic. It's up market. Awesome portions of food and excellent prices for what you get. It has won "Award of Excellence" in the past four years. You will not be dissappointed. Tel: 475 9069. They own two other restaurants, Sistina & Original Sin on the same street.

Bon Appetit

I had a great romantic anniversary meal at Les Amis on Claymore (near Shaw Center & American Club). But it was rather pricey.

The wine list was mind boggling.

Forgot to mention - I asked the wine waiter for his recommendation on a half bottle of wine, ordered what he recommended ... the bill was (we discovered later) $180!!!  Haven't lived it down yet ...  By the way, the wine was very nice ...
